Russian Imperial Medallion
(Russian, c. Early 20th Century)


Description: One Russian Imperial Medallion made of gilt bronze and inlaid with enamel, featuring (4) red flags interspersed with (4) double headed birds of prey done in gilt bronze all circling around a central white enamel section marked "S S" in red; the verso lacks the red enamel exhibited on the obverse. The medallion still has its original red presentation box with a small gold clasp featuring the painted double headed bird of prey

Distinguishing Marks: Stamped "OTT" and "INADO" on the verso
Circa: Late 19th Century- Early 20th Century
Additional Information: The Keibel jewelry firm has been the primary supplier for the Russian Court and the Kapitul (Chancellery) since the1840s. Early pieces bearing Wilhelm Keibel or Julius Keibel markings are revered for their exceptional craftsmanship. This medallion in particular is scarcely found since most of the medals were have said to be returned to the Chancellery upon the death of the awarded recipients.
