Beautiful Romanian Bessarabian handmade kilim with an overall floral pattern consisting of red, white, green and yellow, set against a black field. Circa: 1950's. Size: 8 feet 8 inches x 11 feet 7 inches

This type of kilim (flat weave) rug originates in a region in Romania north of the Black Sea, which is now part of the Ukraine. Rug weaving in this region began under the Ottoman Empire. The typical pattern of a Bessarabian rug consists of an overall European inspired floral design.
